Wood or aluminum

Frame material is one part of choosing a reformer. Compare the construction, carriage system, adjustments and upholstery on each model, along with its care instructions.

Wood frames

Ask which wood species and finish are used, and whether that description covers the whole frame or selected components. Natural wood can vary in appearance. Check its care requirements.

Aluminum frames

Review the finish, connecting hardware and care instructions. Ask for the machine’s weight; an aluminum frame alone does not tell you how heavy the complete machine is.

On either frame

Check carriage travel, the spring set and footbar positions. Review the model’s load rating and the availability of replacement parts separately from the material choice.
